FLI‑Supported Writers’ Workshop for Gawarbati Language

The Forum for Language Initiatives (FLI) supported a three‑day Writers’ Workshop for the Gawarbati language, held in Arandu Village, Lower Chitral. A total of 20 participants — including schoolteachers, university students, poets, and community writers — attended the event aimed at strengthening Gawarbati writing.

FLI partnered with its community‑based organization Al‑Qalam, which works for the promotion of Gawarbati, to organize the workshop. Another local body, the Gawar Adbi Board, was also represented, reflecting strong community collaboration.

Sessions were facilitated by Farid Ahmed Raza, FLI’s external trainer, who guided participants throughout the workshop. The program concluded on last Sunday, with participants expressing appreciation for FLI’s efforts and requesting more such initiatives in the future.

Gawarbati, spoken in the border villages of southern Chitral (KP), has been in written use for decades. FLI has played a key role in strengthening its writing system and publishing materials developed by trained community members. Today, Gawarbati stands among FLI’s highly documented target languages.

This workshop is expected to further empower speakers to express themselves in their mother tongue, ensuring the language continues to thrive. FLI remains committed to supporting the Gawarbati community and advancing mother‑tongue literacy in the years ahead.
