Ormuri is spoken in Kaniguram, a pocket in Mahsud Pashtoon of Wazirstan. It is the ancestral language of the Burki tribe. Due to the current conflict in the area, the whole population of the group has migrated to different parts of Pakistan.

According to the Ethnologue (2013), the total number of Ormuri speakers is around 6,000. Rozi Khan Burki, a local researcher, is currently working on the documentation of the language and has collected more than six thousand words for the Ormuri Dictionary.
