Gowro, the language of Gabar Khel clan  is spoken by a small number of people on the east bank of the Indus River in District Kohistan. The main village where Gowro is spoken is Mahrin which has a majority population of Shina speaking people. Mother tongue speakers of Gowro are estimated only 200 or fewer while Shina speakers are more than 200,000 in the area. Gowro language has 60 percent similarity with the Bateri and the same amount of similarity with the Chilisso.

Gowro people are also able to speak Shina who call it Kolai, a Kohistani version of Shina. The members of Gabar Khel clan speak their language at home but use Shina for wider communication. Gowro language is definitely a threatened one as the language is not spoken by all children at home.
