FLI’s Writers Workshop on Madaklashti Persian Concludes in Madaklasht, Lower Chitral

Madaklasht, Chitral — September 06-08, 2026

The Forum for Language Initiatives (FLI), in collaboration with its community partner Hunarmandan ہنرمندان, has successfully concluded the second phase of writers’ training in Madaklasht, Lower Chitral.

This workshop follows the landmark Orthography Workshop held earlier (June 8–12, 2026), marking another milestone in FLI’s ongoing efforts to develop the Madaklashti variety of Persian into a literate language. Over three days, participants engaged in intensive sessions on writing principles, laying the groundwork for a functional writing system.

A total of 15 participants, including writers, teachers and students, seven of them were women, attended all sessions. FLI especially commends the active participation of women, whose keen interest reflects the community’s growing commitment to language development.

Madaklashti, spoken in the upper villages of Shishkuh Valley in Lower Chitral, was recently taken up by FLI as part of its mission to preserve and strengthen linguistic heritage. With continued training and support, the language is expected to gain a functional writing system, opening doors to literature development and cultural preservation.

FLI has reaffirmed its commitment to stand by the community until Madaklashti Persian becomes a fully literate language. The organization hopes that local researchers will apply their learning to safeguard and enrich their heritage for generations to come.
