This book is fourth in FLI's Language and Culture Series, and first of its kind, focusing entirely on the culture of the southern part of Chitral Valley. It mainly deals with the daily village life of Kalkatak. What sets this village apart others is, it is situated at the crossroad of a number of ethnic and linguistic groups. Palula, Shekhani, Gojri and Dameli are some of the communities surrounding the village.

It is also somewhat unique in the sense that the village has gone through almost complete language shifts as many as three times during the last century. The co-author of the book, Fakhruddin Akhundzada hailed from the same village.
