Razwal Kohistani is a renowned Pakistani linguist, author, and cultural researcher from Indus Kohistan, celebrated for over four decades of pioneering work in the documentation and standardization of the Shina (Kohistani Shina) language. With an MBA in Finance and a distinguished career that included service at WWF Pakistan, Razwal has made lasting contributions to linguistics, cultural sociology, and history. Razwal’s most notable achievements include the creation of a comprehensive three-volume Shina–Kohistani–Urdu Dictionary, the development of an Arabic-based script and digital keyboard for Kohistani Shina, and a prolific body of research and publications in multiple languages. In recognition of these efforts, Razwal received the Presidential Award in 2024 for a Shina-language biography of the Prophet Muhammad Throughout a career marked by academic rigor and cultural advocacy, Razwal Kohistani has authored or co-authored nearly 50 works across Shina, Urdu, and English, often collaborating with international scholars. Razwal’s research spans the phonology, grammar, and sociolinguistics of Shina, as well as the oral traditions, tribal histories, and cultural systems of Kohistan.
